I use a Scanwit 2720 and Vuescan with Multipass scanning and the alignment
appears to be perfect.

Yes thats the reason.. other scanners multiscan before the frame advances, thus
they get perfect registration.. The acer must scan the whole image and then
average it with another scan.. all things considered the Acer does a good job..
you would be amazed if you tried multiscanning with an old HP

When selecting negative mode in silverfast, I do not get the Film type and
Exposure window as described in Ian Lyons Tutorial. Am I missing something?
My tutorial makes it quite clear that Nikon scanners do NOT use the negative
scanning feature as shown in the tutorial. Paragraph 2 :-

Thanks for the answer. I have not seen any film profiles during the years I
have used Silverscan but the pdf file in 5.2 can confuse people.

The software for Nikon scanners doesn't support the feature. You don't need
the feature, you can ignore this section of the manual, which is written to
cover ALL supported scanners. For the LS30/2000 IV/4000 and 8000 there is a

Are you by chance using Silverfast SE? It does not include film profiles
like Silverfast AI does.
