The problem might be the nature of the way your printer has been hooked up
softwarewise. Some printers come with Appletalk as well as non-Appletalk

Actually I stand corrected. I started Finale, got the irritating box and
noticed an options button. Clicked on that and there was the option to
leave it on always and to not ask. I have done that.

OK, I've installed OMS and my MIDI driver, and configured the former
to recognize my antique (Roland D-5) synth. In Finale's MIDI setup
dialog, I set things up so that input would come from the synth, but
playback would go thru the QuickTime Musical Instruments.
Speedy entry now works fine,
