Just to clarify, in 2k3 and 2k4 you can turn the spacing of hidden notes on and off in layer options.

There is a checkbox in the spacing options for Hidden Notes. In the manual
this isn't mentioned, instead it talks of a checkbox for "Ignore Hidden
Notes". I am pretty sure this is just an error.
