Ken Moore offers the definitive Westminster Chimes sequence as recorded
from the actual chimes. Reject all imitations!

Patsy Moore.

_____________________________________________________________________

Correct sequence (as broadcast by BBC Radio 4 from time to time, but
mostly only the last, to indicate salient hours GMT) is as follows (not
sure if this is the correct key):

Quarter EDCG
Half CEDG CDEC
Three quarter ECDG GDEC EDCG
Hour CEDG CDEC ECDG GDEC

The hour chime is followed by the strike (Big Ben).

Musicians can remember this in groups: three imperfect cadences (I1, I2,
I3), which are in order of increasing jaggedness (number of reversals),
and two perfect cadences (P1, P2), which are in order of increasing
range. Each quarter begins with an imperfect cadence, imperfect and
perfect alternate within each quarter, and the whole sequence is used
twice per hour.
