Thanks,
A search for the fonts and learning how to reinstall them fixed the
problem, so it was really an issue of the fonts, not characters, being
in the wrong place.

you can try is to update your system, there was an issue with fonts
having characters show up in he wrong places, this was fixed in the
10.3.6 update.
