I've inadvertently changed something (finmac 2006) and now when I select
page setup from the file menu I am taken to the Custom Paper Size dialog. I
really need to get to the normal page setup but I don't know what I changed
and haven't had any luck figuring it out in the online manual.
The list tells Finale which fonts it should consider as symbol
fonts: all the music notation fonts + Zapf Dingbats, Wingdings, etc.
Open it in TextEdit and delete any font that looks like it's a normal
text font (such as Times).

I have also been having this problem. Here's how I think it goes.
If the document you open was created with a different list in the
MacSymbolFonts.txt list than the one that's in the program in which
you are opening the document, you get that pain in the ass notice.
Then you

insert a page break for that system. I once used this system to write 100
page book of 21 pieces separated by text pages of introduction and notes.
The entire book was one Finale file.
