You may want to try ctrl-double click after you select the area where you
want to change the clef. Be sure only the partial measure is selected at
the beginning.

The simplest way to create a mid-measure clef is to select the clef
tool, hold down a number key (1 for treble, 2 for alto, etc.) and
click where you want it. The music will stay in that clef until you
change it in a subsequent bar.
