On Mac there is a software called Renamer4Mac which batch-renames
files for you.

On Mac there is a software called Renamer4Mac which batch-renames files for
you. One of the options is to add a sequential number at any place in the
filename, so you could add it at the beginning and the parts would sort
automatically when you displayed them by filename.

01_Piccolo
02_Flute_1
03_Flute_2
etc.
I'd love to hear a better way, too!

Does anyone know of a way to logically name PDFs so they appear in
score order within a folder? Back in the days of part extraction, it
was easy to add the staff number (%n), but now with linked parts, it
seems to have added a step in my process of managing large batches of
PDFs.

Thanks, Jari. You were absolutely right, that was the problem. But I still
don't
know what would be the best way to write "sounding" natural harmonics, i. e.,
those where just the diamond shape note is shown (assuing or stating the
corresponding open string). I used to do it in the second layer
