Finale Mac 2012.
I've set the velocity of a few notes to zero through the process described
below:
Midi Tool menu>>Velocity checked
Selected a measured, double-clicked (MIDI Window open)
Clicked first note's little square box - Edit MIDI note window open
Typed "0" into "velocity" field.
Repeated f
I think you should deal with notes inserted in layer 3 or 4 and set that
layer to be muted but
it's better to wait for experts reply.

Thanks. That's a good work-around. I'll use it. I'm still intrigued as to why
it did not work the way I've done it.

Under Export>Audio File there is only WAV. Is it not possible to export as MP3?

No it's not possible. You need to use a file converter to convert the wav
to mp3. I use "Format factory" which is a useful free programme which can
be used to convert to or from most audio and video formats.

If Human Playback is OFF, File->Export->Audio File has the option of saving as
MP3. Hopefully this is not a Mac only feature.

Thank you, gentlemen! I DID have a number of files saved as MP3's, so was
starting to question my sanity when I could not figure it out on my PC.

On Mac I exported a 63,5MB.wav file from a Finale 2012 score. In iTunes I
converted it to a 5,8MB .mp3 file that sounds amazingly close to the GPO
playback from the Finale file.

I neglected to mention that you must also "Play Through Midi" for the MP3
option to be a available.
But, you'll end up with a much better recording using Audio Units and Human
Playback and finding another way of converting the resulting audio file (Wav or
AIFF) to MP3.

wrong perspective. not "you can no longer..." but rather "now you can..."
although not without growing pains (that most
users will not encounter), this is a valuable
"new feature" in finale
the feature is better implemented than linked
parts, which is still not usable (the way it
should be)
