I neglected to mention that you must also "Play Through Midi" for the MP3 option to be a available. But, you'll end up with a much better recording using Audio Units and Human Playback and finding another way of converting the resulting audio file (Wav or AIFF) to MP3. On Mar 15, 2013, at 4:

wrong perspective. not "you can no longer..." but rather "now you can..." although not without growing pains (that most users will not encounter), this is a valuable "new feature" in finale the feature is better implemented than linked parts, which is still not usable (the way it should be)
