Well, Rebeam does work selectively - of course you can only select
contiguous measures.

Someone asked me about it, and I think they want to be able to selectively
remove beams from arbitrary passages.

You could use Finale’s own Rebeam feature (under Utilities).
Simply select Rebeam to Time Sig and then select something like 16/16 - or
whatever fits your music.
That should break all beams

Could you rebeam to time signature, 8/8 or 16/16? Or am I being too
simple minded (not rare)?

Does anyone know of a plugin that removes beams and replaces them with
flagged notes?

My last FINMAC version was 2005 before 2014. I first updated my older files to
2005 then went again to 2014 - a 2 stage solution. That went OK. I opened
one again in 2014.5 and that went horrible. So bad I shut it down and not
looked at 2014.5 since. GJB

Friends,
REcently I’ve been trying to bring some older files from the last century
(1999; what version of Finale would _that_ have been?) up to date for second
editions. Although FinMac 2012c has done a pretty good job, there have been
several glitches. The most annoying: all the half-note rests
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everybody that gave their
comments it has been very helpful and reassuring thank you again Martin

yep.
the only thing i could add to what has already been said is that
david's method is what i have also found very quick in predominantly
scalar passages. with various styles of new music there are more and
larger and varied intervallic jumps, so the computer or midi keyboard
comes in handy
