But you should be able to scan them into .xml files using Photoscore or other
such software.

Yeah, the only Mac one I'm finding is called "midiOut" but all the links to
it that I can find are dead. :-(

I normally do my playback via the Aria player and Garritan Personal Orchestra
5. But in a current project I need cymbals played normally plus hanging with
the timpani player doing the rolls due to fast changes of cymbal mode.
I haven’t yet found out how to get the cymbals right in Garritan, so I
Yes, there are several VST-to-MIDI plugins.
For example for Finale/Windows/32bit I use "jthalamus".

Followup: apparently it is not possible. According to the manual page, if
you choose VST playback, you can't do MIDI. What a seemingly arbitrary
limitation, but there's probably some technical reason for it behind the
scenes.
That said, it might be possible to do what I want to do if there were a
Is it possible to set a track (Finale instrument) to playback to a MIDI
device while the rest playback as Garritan sounds? I'm not seeing an
obvious way to do this.

dude, why would you want to make your life so difficult? that is the absolute
worst way to do microtonal notation. expressions are more reliable for
positioning, but in any case, you will want to reset them all to the 0 position
globally (once all are entered) before doing any real layout work.
Christopher Smith has given you one possible reason.
My suggestion is that you might be using a slur instead of a tie. They
look the same when placed over two notes of the same line/space on the
staff but they carry very different instructions for playback. So first
make sure you've got a tie
Hmm, I have never had trouble with this. There might be something in the
position settings that is messing things up (avoid staff lines?)
You should submit this to the Forum, where you can include an attachment for
people to look at.

For the plugin to work, you need the bars to match exactly, and for there to be
more than three of them. Since I often put in one-bar repeats (or slashes, in
the case of a drum part) that messes up the count. Even a dynamic in the first
bar will cause the plugin to consider it as different. I fi

Check the alignment of the text box where the title is. If it is set to be,
say, a certain distance from the left margin, that distance will be different
on differently-sized pages. You probably want it to be centred. You probably
want the instrument name to be left-aligned to the page margin, t
I am suspecting that you used a non-MIDI method of entering the notes, and did
not apply the flat to the second E that was tied over a barline from the E
flat. It would make no difference to the notation, but it WOULD affect the
playback.

Finale 2014.5
I am working on a piece with a lot of microtone accidentals, using the
articulation tool. Even though I have specified horizontal and vertical
positions for the articulation, this is ignored every time and I have to
position each and every accidental. Is this broken as designed
