i had to do this years ago, so memory is rusty. if i recall correctly my solution was careful use of explode music, with very particular settings, and in sections, not the whole doc at once. in some cases some you will have to adjust manually (speedy entry, cursor on doubled notehead and

I hear ya, baby. For some tasks, it would be easier to alter things in a sequencer. For example, in Cubase (my sequencer of choice, though I am sure others have this function as well) there are tools like Legato (which eliminates overlap and avoids the eighthnote, eighthrest appearance
