I went thru this very same decision dilemma about a year ago and asked
here as well. The consensus was Epson for the most part, and I went
with the Perfection V500. It does cost a bit more but it's rock solid
and works flawlessly.

On the same subject: Has anyone got experience with the Mustek A3
scanners? They are really cheap, it seems.
