Yup. Check that option for layer 2 (or whatever layer you decide to
use). Then as long as you don't go into that layer you'll not see
those notes...

Umm, yes, this WILL give you some surprises if you have anything NOT
hidden in layer 2, or 4 anywhere else in the piece! It won't show up!
