is there anything that can be done to make F2014 faster (on yosemite)? i have a
big file that i find too slow, have tested it on a newer machine and of course
it is faster, so some of the problem is of course my HD. but are there any
other things to be done to improve it? i never use playback
Work in scroll view as much as you can. In page view, Finale 2014 redraws every
page starting with page one. If you're working on page 30, you have to wait for
pages 1–29 to redraw first.
Speed improvements were mentioned for Finale 2014.5, so I hope they've
addressed this issue.

hey ryan. yeah it is much faster in scroll view but i am cleaning up a completed
score, so sometimes need page view. i have it set to display current page only
so i shouldn't have that particular problem. thanks, and let me know if you
think of anything else :-)

From what I understand, from tech support, it doesn't matter if you're only
viewing current page only.
But I understand your concerns. Slowness in page view while cleaning up the
score is the main reason I went back to 2012.

Hi Jef,
In my experience, Finale is very unstable with MIDI Thru set to off. I set it
to a Fixed channel that is not in use (like, channel 99, for example).
Probably won't help with performance but might help with stability.
Finale also seems to do best with a minimum of 30 GB of free HD space.
jef,
another option you could consider short of upgrading the entire machine is
replacing your system drive (and any other drive) with a solid state drive.
this is probably the single most effective speed upgrade you could make.
you get ones that are plug-compatible with the internal drives of mos
fwiw the most dramatic speed increase in F2014 for me came after I removed
F2012 from my system.
I have no idea why, and can't guarantee that you'll have the same experience,
but that's what I found.
And by dramatic, I mean, dramatic.
(using MacBook Pro running OSX)
best of luck,

Dave,
I'd wager that had more to do with freeing up lots of additional disk space.

Darcy,
I've tried that idea on two different systems. Fresh, new HDs (500gb, 1tb) with
a fresh OS install and only Finale installed with and without playback sounds
and 2014d was still a dog. I think the only thing is to wait for an update.
Cheers,
Steve

No I have a 1TB internal drive - it was not related to disk space.

ok will do that, thanks. i never use MIDI so never know what settings to use.
i have 200 GB free after some recent cleanup, so that is no problem.

yeah my mac dude had suggested that and i will eventually upgrade to an SSD
drive replacing my DVD. my plan to use the external drive as the home for the
new system was so i could get working as soon as possible and postpone the
expenses involved in the new drive for a few weeks, i just finished
