I have worked for a while with Myriad's Harmony Assistant. It is a very ambitious piece of software with many neat -- or potentially neat features. Omer is the $20 scanner add-on.
I had intended to do quick comparison using Omer/Harmony Assistant and SharpEye/MusicXML/Finale and then show you the results side-by-side in a Finale generated PDF. I am fairly experienced in using SharpEye/MusicXML to import music into Finale. SharpEye takes bitmaps of scanned music and converts them to MusicXML which can then be imported in Finale or Sibelius (I think), Harmony Assistant and a bunch of other programs. I found Myriad's Omer user interface very easy to grasp and execute. Unfortunately the quality of the "ocr" results as notes on a page bears only scant resemblance to the original page of sheet music. Many, many more errors than I find using SharpEye. Myriad has a lot of neat features in its music software lines. However, I don't believe Omer -- at the moment, anyway -- can hold a candle to SharpEye. However, the price is right -- $20. SharpEye is also heads and shoulders above SmartScore Lite that comes bundled inside of Finale. SharpEye's interface is a little crude, but that is more than compensated by pretty good results. Don't discount Myriad, however. They have some very talented folks in Toulouse. If they were to get serious about upping the ante on SharpEye with Omer, then stand by, it would become a serious competitor.
