Is it possible that there is nothing wrong with any of your fink packages, but you have a bad font? Probably one you added yourself? I would remove almost all of my fonts and see if that fixes the problem.

has anyone gotten bbconf working properly? I've got it compiled w.o major errors, but when i run it, i just get a window (which looks similar to the screen shots on the bbconf site) but none of the plug-ins seem to be loading. One thing that did occur when i ran 'make install' was a message saying
