If you don't have /usr/include/wchar.h (or generally when you get a
"header file not found" error) then you're probably missing the DevSDK
package from the Developer Tools (whichever are appropriate for
whatever version of OSX you're running, since you didn't say).

I have the same problem:
cd lib && make install-lib
libdir='/sw/src/libiconv-1.9.1-11/libiconv-1.9.1/lib'
includedir='/sw/src/libiconv-1.9.1-11/libiconv-1.9.1/lib'
/bin/sh ../autoconf/mkinstalldirs
/sw/src/libiconv-1.9.1-11/libiconv-1.9.1/lib
/bin/sh ../libtool --mode=install /usr/bin/install -

I am getting a compilation error each time I try to update fink or when
I tried to install xemacs. I have developer tools installed, there
don't appear to be updates specific for os 10.3. Maybe I'm missing
something obvious but any help is appreciated.
/usr/bin/sudo /sw/bin/fink install xema
