Hi all,

since nobody had answer for my question what about the status of
gnome2.4 is in fink and wether it will be avaible for 10.2.8 users
which have gcc3.3 installed and are using the 10.2-gcc3.3 tree I
tried to build gnome myself using garnome but I ran in localcharset
trouble and I have no clue on how to solve it. I need libiconv and
libintl the first provided in a standalone package, the last one
beeing part of gettext.

When I now try to either install gettext or
better rebuild it I get the following error message a few times:

ld: warning suggest use of -bind_at_load, as lazy binding may
result in errors or different symbols being used
symbol _locale_charset used from dynamic library
/sw/lib/libiconv.dylib(localcharset.o) not from earlier dynamic
library /sw/lib/libintl.1.dylib(localcharset.lo)

The same error occures when trying to install libiconv.

Despite the error both packages libiconv and gettext compile to end
and install.

When trying to build gnome 2.4 via garnome everything goes well
until at some special point during atk compiling this error occures:

ld: warning multiple definitions of symbol _locale_charset
localcharset.lo definition of _locale_charset in section
(__TEXT,__text)
/sw/lib/libiconv.dylib(localcharset.o) definition of _locale_charset
(cd .libs && rm -f libintl.1.dylib && ln -s libintl.1.0.1.dylib
libintl.1.dylib)
(cd .libs && rm -f libintl.dylib && ln -s libintl.1.0.1.dylib
libintl.dylib)
ar cru .libs/libintl.a intl-compat.o bindtextdom.o dcgettext.o
dgettext.o gettext.o finddomain.o loadmsgcat.o localealias.o
textdomain.o l10nflist.o explodename.o dcigettext.o dcngettext.o
dngettext.o ngettext.o plural.o localcharset.o

and afterwards only the error messages occure that the make process
has failed. Hopefully I copied the right parts of the error
message, otherwise I can re run the configuration process and post
the entire error message.

So where did I mess up. Has it something to do with Perl? I
manually Installed a perl 5.8.1 since I need it for testing purpose
and the fink version didn't work like I needed it. System-perl is
in place.

Thanks in advance of any hints.
Eric Hoch
