[Fink-beginners] problems with lame

hi, i can no longer use lame to convert from .wma/flac to .mp3. the resulting mp3 file is just hissing noise. i tried with freshly installed lame as well with a non fink lame - so my problem may be unrelated to fink. any ideas whats wrong? any ideas how to test what libraries lame is using
