noticed the compiler used is cc=/usr/bin/cc (i.e Apple's gcc 4.2.1). Wouldn't
things go better with fink's gcc 4.4.1?

I too, am having the same problem compiling mplayer -1.0.0rc2-1011.
I am using a Nehalem quad core 2.66 running OS X 10.6.2
fink --version
Package manager version: 0.29.10
Distribution version: selfupdate-rsync Tue Feb 23 19:15:26 2010, 10.6, x86_64

On OSX 10.6.2 mplayer-1.0.0rc2-1011 now fails with
