Today I was looking into what I need to do to get rid of my -ssl package variants. Unfortunately, I didn't really find any resources on the subject, and also didn't see anything relevant on the Wiki or in our docs. No help on #fink either (OK, probably asked during a bad time of the year, I admit that :-).
Anyway, after consulting a bit with pogma, I decided to try and write down what I discovered about this subject. So I started a Wiki page: <http://wiki.finkproject.org/index.php/Getting_rid_of_- ssl_variants_by_using_system-openssl-dev>. Now, I wrote this solely based on what I "reverse engineered" from package in the 10.4 distribution. As such, it would be good if somebody who knows more about the subject looked over it and corrected it suitably. And maybe somebody is interested in extending it -- feel free to. Finally, I guess once this is mature enough, somebody with sufficient access rights on the Wiki should add a link to it to the Wiki front page.
