This is a FAQ: http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-packages.php#libXmuu
(which doesn't mean anyone knows why this happens).

Hello,
I used dselect to install bundle-kde (3.0.7-7) and
all its dependencies (ie. xfree86).
When I type "startx -- -fullscreen" I get this error message:

the latest fink mysql does not use the threaded libraries?

Hi,
I tried removing and reinstalling bundle-gnome, and it is the version
from stable, but I still have the same error, with gnome-session not
being found. Oh well - it's not the first time I've made a new fink
installation, so it won't kill me ;-)
Cheers,

You may have to update some other packages, too, but yes.

Hmm. It should be resolved now (I'm running unstable).

So your saying that I now should be able to run "fink update evolution" and
it should work?

I use unstable, which may be why I'm having problems. I know, I know.
Unstable means just that, Unstable. So it may very well be my bad.
Anyway, I have tried it both ways. By installing evolution, gtkhtml was
installed. Then, when upgrading, gtkhtml1.1 fails. I also tried installing

Hello all.
I have recently installed evolution and would like to start Syncing it with
my Palm Pilot. I installed J-Pilot, which I assumed would somehow aid in
syncing with evolution, but evolution tells me that the GNOME Pilot Tools
are not installed. When I do a "fink list pilot", Only jpilot an
Well, they are different versions of the same stuff.
The reason for the separate packages is that evolution-1.2 requires
gtkhtml-1.1, but some of the other packages require an earlier version.
My recollection is that there were some packages that had an erroneous

Ouch! You make a clear case for just copying the .info/.patch files over
to local when you want to play around with unstable.
You may not need to blow all of fink away. Try this:
1) Verify that bundle-gnome points to the stable version with "fink list
bundle-gnome"
2) If so, try installing bu
This might be a stupid question but when I try to install something that
requires gtkhtml1.1, why does the install fail with an error telling me that
gtkhtml1.1 conflicts with gtkhtml? This is really stupid. Is fink not smart
enough to simply upgrade to gtkhtml1.1? Or are these two gtkhtml's

I'd suggest Fink Commander as a useful aid in this case, because then you
can see the current stable versions of all of the packages. That way
you can do any downgrading you need to.

Hi,
I edited my fink.conf to contain unstable, so I could install
fix-fink, and rebuild things linked against the outdated libpng. After
installing fix-fink, I then edited my fink.conf back, to remove the
unstable paths. I then ran fix-fink, and it appears to have resulted
in lots of things
Hi,
I read in the fink "Unix Porting Guide" about the problems with
libtool. It seems to say that libtool 1.4 in Fink CVS is patched, but
implies that libtool 1.3.5 is not patched. Do I need to apply the
patch mentioned to libtool 1.3.5? or is this already done for me?

Now that kde 3.1 Is in stable, what's the best way to switch fink from
unstable to stable?

Personally, I am avoiding Apple's X11 until it comes out of beta.
Fink's is stable (mostly) and I would prefer to avoid the
compatibility issues until they are all ironed out.
