If the only problem is gcc 3.3, you could run "sudo gcc_select 3.1" to use gcc 3.1 as your default compiler. I believe it's not too hard to remove the Dev Tools. There should be a Perl script called /Developer/Tools/uninstall-devtools.pl . If you run this, that should clear everything out, an
