This is unofficial advice from an extensive user of fink but one who
hasn't really figured out the whole package configuration and
dependency mechanism. It may only apply after previous failed
attempts to install packages that install libraries or it may
actually be a problem with the installa
There's an ambiguity in the third bullet of the left hand column of
http://fink.sourceforge.net/ regarding updating Fink for Tiger. I
read it to mean that the last sentence goes with the next-to-last
sentence and only applies if your version of fink is less than
0.24.5. Reading more carefully
When I do an updateall that involves many (or even several if
unlucky) packages there seems to be a constant battle between those
requiring libncurses5 and those requiring ncurses-dev (and possibly
one or two more varieties -- I forget). [If it matters, I've been
