I can't seem to get gnushogi to work. I've tried installing both the
binary and from source. From source, it seemed to have an error, but
ignored the error and continued. No binary was created (that I could
find). The binary version also seems to lack an executable binary
file--at least no
I've gotten tired of waiting for applications to move from Unstable to

I've worked out most of the kinks, but I'm still having trouble with

reinstalling openjade, since that
Hi again,
I got everything working and downloaded a lot of binaries using
dselect. Then I tried to update my system to newer compiled versions
using fink update-all. However I got the following error:
Failed: Can't resolve dependency xscreensaver for package
control-center-2.4.0-6 (no matching
a little nervous about changing them.
Did I just forget something simple? Any suggestions?

Will installing QT-mac do bad things to fink? Is it possible for Fink's
X-11 QT to live beside the Mac version? Is it possible to get Fink to
use the mac version (I'm assuming this is, at least for the moment, a
no).
Thanks

I tried to run the command listed on the web page:
sudo find /sw/ -user 2011 -exec chown root:admin {} \;
And I got a lot of errors similar to these:
chown: changing ownership of `/sw/etc/gtk/gtkrc.sk': Function not
implemented
chown: changing ownership of `/sw/etc/gtk/gtkrc.sl': Function not

I'd suggest Fink Commander as a useful aid in this case, because then you

you can do any downgrading you need to.

Anyone know anything about setting up USB networking on an iBook? Or using
pppd to setup serial networking (presumably through a USB-to-serial
converter)?
I know on my Linux box, I had to recompile the kernel to get the USB
networking functionality. I was hoping that the Mac would either just do
Ok this worked for one of the projects. But two others didn't. I set the
environment variables as per the fink FAQ. I then used your script, which
compiled the first project perfectly.
On one of the others, I tried to follow the instructions below. However, I
got the following error:

I've downloaded the source code to several non-fink KDE applications, and
tried to compile them by hand.
I've already installed KDE 3.1 from fink unstable. So I should have the QT
libraries. However, on every file I try to compile I am getting the

Thanks,
I thought I saw something in the FAQ, but when I was looking last night, I
couldn't find it.

I installed the full kde bundle from unstable. Most things that I've
tried seem to be working. However, I'm having trouble with kontour.
I can draw polygons and ovals, but I cannot use the pencil tool to
draw. And whenever I try to convert an oval to paths, it crashes.
I'm not running KDE,
Whereis only pulls up the location of non-fink applications. I believe
apropos was not working before I installed fink, but now works
(presumably only showing the relevant fink files--but I haven't been
able to confirm that). And find doesn't seem to have the options that I
have grown to know
I tried installing bundle-tetex (which trys to install system-tetex),
but it fails while installing tetex-texmf. I've tried to follow the
instructions fink install tetex-texmf but, I keep getting the
following error:

I've downloaded apple's new x11 and it seems to be working pretty well.
However, there are times when I may not want a rootless x server. For
example, I can see times when it would be nice to drop into KDE and let
KDE be the window manager.
It sounds like that is the way things were done
