federico, before you remove fink and start all over (a bit radical!) make sure you start by removing the old x11. X11 used to be in /Applications/ , now it is in /Applications/Utilities. So remove /Applications/X11 to start with. Then it might be that you did not install the Developer tools part of the X11 package, so check again your installation (look at the customize options for disks 3 or 4, can't remember which). Proceeding like this gave me no problem. mlm

Perhaps more helpfully, delete all the old "virtual" packages, like system-*. They prevent the new "built-in" ones from kicking in. See /sw/lib/perl5/Fink/VirtPackage.pm for the list of packages you will definitely want to get rid of if you have them installed (xfree, jdk, kernel, ...).
