Also, if you compiled KDE with xfree86-*-threaded installed, and then
switched to Apple X11 Beta 1, things would break, because Beta 1 didn't
like the threaded stuff (I'm not sure if this has been remedied in Beta

were caused by bugs of X11. More specifically, your comment reminds me

I'd like to report some success installing and using the latest KDE
packages. I installed karm, korganizer, and kaddressbook to use them as
standalone applications (without the rest of the KDE experience).
In my previous attempt at this, the applications would compile and
launch, and then
