Yes you can, but you need to make sure that you either use the libfbclient.so of Firebird 3, or that you set the encryption setting to Enabled (or Disabled) instead of the default of Required. On top of that, if you use the libfbclient.so of an earlier Firebird version, you need to create a user for the legacy authentication model. Although usually "connection rejected by remote interface" just means that there is no server listening on the specified port.
