Dear FIS colleagues,

The First Conference on Philosophy of Information has just taken place
in Xian; and indeed it has been quite an exciting and useful experience.
Congratulations to the leading organizer: Wu Kun, and to his excellent
team of collaborators. Several FIS and ISIS parties could finally
participate there (Brenner, Brier, Jahr, and myself, apart from our
well known colleagues in China: Wukun, Yixin, Ouyang, Zongrong, etc.).
Other Western participants were there too, with topics quite close to
our discussion interests. They have been invited to join the fis list
and in due time we will organize short discussion sessions around their
topics.
For their information (I have just subscribed them into the
list---minutes ago) precisely we now are running a session on the
Sociotype, chaired by Raquel del Moral, who is also in the Secretariat
of the list. Their comments are welcome, if needed the exchanged texts
can be easily found in the list archives. In a few days Raquel and me
will try to make some plans for the coming months sessions and will
publish them in the list. More news will be posted about ISIS and FIS
during next weeks too. The conference has been very useful for advancing
in important organization chapters.
Thus, our most cordial welcome to: Kenneth Herold, Israel Belfer, James
McAllister, Colin Allen, and Michael Moran; plus Liu Gang and Guolin Wu.

best wishes,

---Pedro
