I would use a rain sheet if he has a thick winter coat, and only put the sheet
on when it rains. For extreme weather like freezing rain down in to the teens
or below maybe a mid weight. Have to be careful and diligent about removing the

I always blanket mine because I keep them clipped. I have used different brands
but have found that some of it depends on how the particular horse is built
specifically how the neck is set and how broad the chest and shoulders are.
