In regards to helmuts, I am an inhome care nurse and most of my patients have
physical or mental disabilities. Over the years I can say alot of my patients
have had either motor cycle , bike , or other sport injuries as well as horse
accidents. I also do birth defects. I my self can say a helmut has saved my
head . I used to be a good rider and did alot of eventing and shows over the
40 yrs of being involved with horses. We all fall from time to time and this
one happend faster than you can say whoa! I had an arab that was a great
horse and fun to ride etc. We were in an indoor areana working on a lesson
and the wind picked up . In Colorado that can happen fast and it blew to 40
miles and going faster. The arena wall was made of metal/aluminum and as I
rode past the corner it popped. My arab jumped and all fours were off the
ground then began to buck like a bronco. After 5 bucks and hanging on I flew
off over his head and crashed into the arena wall. My trainer at the time
thought I was dead, but after about 1/2 hr. I came to. I had a bad concussion
and didn't know who I was for about 3 weeks. If I hadn't been wearing that
helmut I probably won't be here to tell any of this, or be like one of my
patients. I wand up years later selling my arab due to some health issues and
fell in love with Fjords. Love Fjords and there gentle nature , but any horse
can and will spook . Helmuts are a must! I also wear a riding vest to
protect my back and ribs! As far as my riding ablitity it took several years
and lots of training to be able to ride again. I'm just glad I can get back
on and enjoy my boy!Susan
