In American Driving Society events, the measurement is at ground level, not involving hubs. They usually take a pair of cones, set the corner of one against the outside rim of each wheel, have the driver move on, and measure between the cones. > How much distance between > the cones is added in addition to the measurement of the cart? In Combined Driving Events, it depends on the "level" at which one is playing. It used to be 50--60 cm (about 20 to 24") for Training Level, decreasing to 20 cm (about 8") at Advanced level. For progressive cones (a show class), it started at 24" and decreased (usually steps of 4") down to 2"---he who gets furthest thru the course without hitting anything, wins. Note that the distance between the cones is measured at ground level, as well.
