Hello list . . just thought I'd let you know another novice driver has
entered the arena (of sorts) .. I just darted to harness up and have my
first outing with Soleia (purchased from Julie Will last December) and she
is just about perfect for a fledgling driver like me .. what fun all you
guys must have been having for all the years I was oblivious to the this
aspect of the horseworld! I managed to persuade my riding instructor from
nearly 30 years ago (!) to come out and help me with our maiden trip ..
Soleia went beautifully, if a little slowly, from time to time, and we had
three cars pass us on our very narrow (and usually empty) dirt road .. and
she didn't flinch in the slightest. Thanks to Julie for for matching me up
with the right starter fjord .. and finding me the cart/harness. She (and
Lori Albrough) have been great at introducing me to fjords and the rest of
you for a wealth of information on so many topics. What a treat to have a
nicely mannered horse between the shafts and to trot down a country lane
under shady boughs with an old friend. I'm looking forward to many many
more such drives .. I did wonder, however, what would be a good regimen for
getting her in shape, as I gather driving and riding require the use of
different muscles sets --- and whether one has to make allowances because
she is bred? On a hot day, how far can I/we go?
