Hi: I was curious about people who are working with Fjord sensitive
trainers. I think Fjords are a little different, maybe smarter, than most
horses. While remaining outwardly calm, sometimes they are inwardly
sensitive, and by 'upping your phases' of encouragement, or discipline, you
can cause them to get resentful or even 'blow up'. A lot of regular
trainers think that the Fjord is 'stubborn' but sometimes I think they are
just 'processing' and need to be given time to think it through. Lots of
times with my Fjords I just 'set it up and wait'. When I see them moving in
the right direction, I stop pushing and just let them do the job I asked.
This way I have made fast progress even though initially it seems a slow
way of going. This year I don't seem to have the time to do everything I
want with my Fjords, especially when it comes to starting colts. Obviously
my plate is too full! So I hired a trainer to start three of them. She is
particularly good at working with Fjords, understanding their thought
processes and being extremely patient. It's pretty cool to watch. A lot of
my Fjords are pretty energetic, they have plenty of go! So it's nice to see
them calmly performing the tasks they are asked to do. If any one is
interested in using this trainer, contact me, like I said, she seems to get
along very well with Fjords. Misha
