This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] What got me into Fjords? I was told I was too large for my (driving) Arab. Judges were marking me down for a "displeasing visual balance" but afraid to put it in writing in most cases so I got dinged for my hat being too informal. People shook their heads. How ever will that poor little horse make it through a marathon with that driver AND a groom for godssakes?! The Arab did just fine, most always in the ribbons and also once took first in her division (prelim pony) in a steady rain proving she is probably part duck. But, I bought a fjord anyway and have not regretted it. They are so different from Arabs (lol, understatement). I don't get dinged for displeasing visual balance anymore. Finally found something with a rump end larger than my own. And I am abandoning hats for a good black velvet helmet. Legally, they can't score down for that as it is a safety issue. I enjoyed Storme's formula for weight ratio. I have always said I was looking for a 1200 lb hose that was three feet tall, as I bounce less well in a fall the older I get no matter how fluffy I am. My fjord mare is 1000 lbs and substantially taller than 3 feet. And our ratio according to Storme's formula puts us right at 75. I may take up riding again.
