After much thought and with regret, we have decided to sell the last of our
Fjords. Our age, health and finances are preventing us from taking care of
them as they should be, and it is not beneficial to the animals to not be
used. Gier is a 15 yr old gelding, the son of Berte and Woodland's Dustin.
We raised him, had him broke to drive when he was four, and the years since
are full of a lot of great memories. I have taken him to several driving
clinics & learned so much. We have missed very few local driving shows, have
even gone to some in the Eastern part of the state, to the State Fair, the
Nebraska orHpp Horse Expo in Lincoln and to some shows in Kansas over the past
eleven years. He has been in parades. He has been on many trail rides,
usually the only driven horse. Most of his driving experience has been as a
single, however, my husband has driven him in a three-up (at the Horse Expo)
and also in a team hitch. I have never had a saddle on him, but have ridden
him bareback. He is big. He stands 14'2" and when in thrifty condition
weighs 1200. The other horse we still have is a 6 yr old gelding, Leader
Lane Lyder. Dam is Coleman's Lilja and the sire is Lukas. His dam's registry
goes back to Sanko and Solvfast lines, while Lukas is a grandson of Grabb & on
the bottom goes back to Torbjorn. We bought him as a two yr old and had him
broke to drive when he was three. I have done some of the Parelli/Anderson
ground work with him. He was so much fun because he was so responsive and
learned so fast. I did saddle him & have ridden him some just in the round
pen and around through our pasture. But, he is not a finished riding horse.
I have driven him single, again just around our country roads. He has not had
a lot of experience, but is really quiet and level headed. A couple times
when something along the road scared him, he would jump, and then freeze for
just a second, think it over, drop his head and get back to work. Buz has had
him hooked double with Gier and has taken them on a wagon train two years. He
has all the good basics of training, plus a really good mind..he is just at
the right time of his life to go on from here. He is a really nice looking
Fjord. Has grown to be 14' 1", is not as heavy as Gier. I'm thinking he
probably weighs about 1000 lbs. Buz also wants to sell a new Beta harness he
had made especially for them, along with the collars, all just used one time.
