This message is from: GAIL RUSSELL <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Everything you ever wanted to know about wood chips is at the following site. http://www.drynest.com/paddock.htm
These are softwood chips - not sure what kind of wood. Someone suggested they might be almond wood - but that would be hardwood I think. I finally went to a demolition company in Santa Rosa and looked at all their chips. The *shredded* stuff has lots of splintering potential, though it probably makes better footing. The chipped stuff I bought (1.5 minus material) seems pretty soft to handle - though I don't think horses should eat from a surface with these chips. It turns out that the WAY they are chopped up (chipped or shredded) makes a difference. And the type of material. And the size makes a big difference. Will let you know how my 30 yard purchase works out in practice. Thanks for the input from everyone on this subject. As to the dark and sunless spot and spousal abuse - I think Jean intended to describe the DANGER of a relationship where all is judgemental, critical and evil - and then suddenly love shines on you. Somehow it is really hard to leave any situation like that because you end up thinking "if I just do something different, the sun will shine all the time." The same set up can arise in love relationships, friendships or jobs. And I suppose it can even happen in your relationship with the Pacific Northwest. :) You are just about to move to Southern California - and the sun comes out and you wonder how you could ever have thought about leaving! :) On top of that, the lack of light causes depression, low self esteem - everything that makes it hard to do anything to properly take care of yourself.:) Gail - who lived in coastal British Columbia for 16 years and loved the place, but it did get to me.
