Responding to bit sizeboth of my Fjord gelding are in 6" loose rings
snaffles, and there is not a lot of room to spare even with this size. You
should have a least 1 finger's width between the bit and the horse's mouth

Are you sure a 5" bit fits them? A lot of fjords take 5 1/2". Be sure ,
especially if it's a loose ring snaffle, that it doesn't pinch because it
is too small. A lot of fjords have fleshy lips (at least my big gelding
