Well, it was one of the longest 3 days we’ve had here in a while …
Saturday we brought out old faithful (Fair Acres Ole) to the Norwegian
Heritage Day where it rained off and on all day. But the rain never seems to
stop people from wanting to pet a horse…the crowds this year were bigger
than last years. While people didn’t stay out in the rain long, Ole once
again was the popular exhibit.
Sunday I took 4 of my students – 2 to ride, 2 to help, to their first ever
dressage shows. It was the first time either of the mares have seen those
“other” horses. Mina in particular, kept whinnying at them, they would call
back but she just didn’t know what to do with them…how strange! Shauna and
Mina did a great job and ended up with a 59% their first time out.
Considering they’d only rode a few times in the last couple weeks a miracle.
Danielle and Greta also did their first but didn’t do quite as well
considering I called out the wrong turns for her (OK, I’ve got the flu, so I
need a little bit of a break ;-) ) But Danielle had a great time and people
loved seeing the Fjords.
Monday, after waiting for a foal 3 weeks over due and seriously wondering if
it was ever going to come – we finally got our very first, Fair Acres Ole
foal! Being 3 weeks over due, she’s huge, but quite the stunner. Yes, we’ve
already named her: Willows Skjønn Ti and she has momma’s head and striking
ear tips and we can see Ole’s strong shoulder and hip in there already as
well. I played with her for a bit and then headed back inside to warm up and
watch Ti & Elsie bond via the monitor. Scott went out to feed this morning,
sat and talked with her and she just licked his face and hands all over!
The vet was just out and commented on her nice strong legs!
We’ll have a special web page for Ti up in the next day with some great new
foal photos. If you are a subscriber to our newsletter, you’ll see a few
photos in there – if you’re not a subscriber yet, you can subscribe and I
believe it send you a welcome letter along with links to past newsletters.
OK, now I really am off to bed for a day to see if I can kick this flu – I
HATE being sick!
