Jean I don't know about horses getting protein from drinking the mosquito
larvae but ugh
Some time ago someone said there was a horse boot company that would make
special sizes. My big Charlie has a 6 1/4" trimmed to grown out 6 3/4" hoof

Tadpoles generally eat algae and plant life, not insect larvae.

Jean, I don't think the mosquito larvae carry the WN virus, but I may be
wrong. I believe the adult mosquito has to bite an infected bird, then
bite the horse. Hey, just think of all the extra protein they are getting
by drinking the mosquito

I do not go with those statistics, "ten people in fifty years." There have
been two deaths here in Wa. in the past five years. One young girl died two
years ago 18 miles from here. Jean

Carol, my cat would love to have me put that tar paper up as bats are her
frustration. I would go for the houses as a cat can not get in if it is
placed in a cat proof area. I give my animals rabies shots every year

Bats are nice and as long as you are aware of the danger of rabies they
should be encouraged . The infection rate in some areas of the country is

Bats do us the favor of eating 2000 to 7000 mosquitoes a night (yes,
really!) They are no more likely to carry rabies than any other wild
critter. According to Bat Conservation International:

What I have read is that a bat can eat about 3000 mosquitoes a night. Yes
they can carry rabies but so can any mammal in the field, no more or less a
risk. I have put up a bat house with no success. Location is key as with a
swallow house, th
