Hi all,
Hi Valerie,
Glad to hear you are doing good with the surgery!! I actually go the
real cheap way when soaking for the elusive abcess or whatever else
is ailing the hooves!! I bought a small size rubber feeder (you
know the black round, low sided tub style. I used to try to use a
bucket and he would pick up the leg and there would go the bucket and
everything in it!! Hubby actually gets the credit for this
idea.....It is just one of those low sided tubs that people use to
feed horses on the ground....I bought a smaller one I think it might
be 2 or 3qt feeder. It is WIDE so if he moves a little his foot
stays in the tub and if he picks up his foot the sides are low enough
and he usually picks up his foot high enough to where he just steps
right out of the tub without knocking the entire thing over...I then
just move the tub to where he is and put his foot right back in...it
is shallow enough to see that the epsom salts are on the bottom and
doing their job and that his foot is sitting flat...as some horses
will just stand on their toe and not put the foot all the way in and
in a bucket you really can't see what the hoof is doing, also, If you
fill it just about 3/4 of the way with water it also covers just up
over the coronet band so it is basically the perfect fit for about $6
bucks at your local Agway store or cheaper online! The wrapping is
the cruddy part!!! Back breaking!! :-)) Hope this helps and keeps
the finances in check!!
Sarah,
You guys definitely won at the show!!!!! I give a ton of credit for
just taking three challenging students to a show period!!! I do have
to say I laughed out loud when I read the one girl who jumped out of
the ring and then back in!!! I (head hanging low) did the exact
same thing!!! I had a Hanoverian mare at the time and she was just a
WITCH no matter how you looked at it. She had been pissy through
out the entire training level test my nerves and her tightness just
didn't make a pretty picture....(my first show with her, of course!)
I went by the judges box at C and asked her for the canter on the
left lead and she went straight thru my hands and legs when I asked
for the Canter and bend in the corner and she went straight instead
of turning in the corner and up and over the rail!!! I was laughing
so hard but gathered myself and cantered right back over the rail and
continued doing my 20 meter circle and finished the test laughing the
entire rest of the test!!! The judge commented to me (with a chuckle
in her voice) she would also make a great three day eventer!!! I
told her she was a hunter in her previous life and she told me she
had great form both on the jump out and in the ring with knees up and
beautiful rounded back!!! We laughed and on top of it we have it on
VIDEO!! My daughter still loves to watch it and get us all laughing
to this day!!! I guess we all have to start somewhere!! All the
kids were winners just for going and competing....you and they should
be very proud!!
