This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For Catherine's question....... If I had a stallion prospect that did not reach the standards set by the Association, I would geld him...period. I feel that the breeder has a definite responsibility to the mare owner, and the breed, to supply the best "Dad" they can. I would much rather have an "outstanding" gelding, than an "ok" stallion. Yes, fingers can be pointed to just about any breed and see the glut of stallions of the market, and I believe that keeping the standards raised can only help everyone. We currently have a truly stunning QH (coming yearling) colt, serious cutting bred, that we will be gelding.....just need to make an appointment with my husband, I guess!!! There are so many considerations that go into being able to properly be owned by a stallion......separate care, marketing, handling, breeding work, maintenance, promotion, mare owners, attention, etc, etc, etc. It is a serious commitment, and a serious responsibility to the stallion/mare owners/breed. I love a good gelding!!!!! But, yes, I would geld until that "just right" and outstanding individual came along. Carole Sweet Modesto, CA
