Just thought I'd share an experience that happened to my friend and me this morning as a word of caution. We went to Tractor Supply and loaded 10 bags of shavings into the back of his pickup, about halfway back to the barn we noticed smoke coming from the back of the pickup. By the time we were able to pull over, flames were spewing out from one of the bags of shavings! Fortunately he was able to put it out right away (thanks to a full bottle of mountain dew). The cause of the flame was a discarded cigarette butt! This could have been a much worse situation! What frightened me most was how flammable shavings are considering we use them to bed our horses stalls! Also, I have heard of people who put shavings in their horses trailers. As it is, I think it is disgusting when smokers discard their cigarette butts from car windows, but never realized just how dangerous it can be! Just food for thought! Gina L.
