Take about 2 tbl of Betadine, dilute it w/ H20 'til it looks like med strength tea, not espresso (!) Get some kind of plastic container w/ a good sealing lid that can hold about a cup or two (I use a Rubbermaid pint container) Fill container about 2/3 full w/ plain old white sugar (not brown or powdered), add a bit of the diluted Betadine, and stir, adding 'til it makes a slightly runny paste. Don't worry, if you add to much liquid, just add more sugar. You need to stir it before each use, as it kinda settles, w/ solids on bottom. I apply w/ a tongue depressor + then toss it out. ( To make your own Betadine scrub = regular Betadine plus liquid soap, I use Dr Bronner's castile. ) Another neat thing i like to use is the unscented baby wipes. I buy off-brand ones, and I use 'em plain to clean eyes, noses, udders, etc.(or even myself - you know the horse dirt just ends up on you sooner than later!) If I am doctoring someone, (and I usually am!) I use them w/ diluted scrub (above). Also, used sports type bottles make great doctoring tools for rinsing & flushing down at the barn. I put hot tap water (sometimes saline) in at the house, by the time I get to the barn, it cools a bit and is pleasantly warm. No cold water from hoses, no having to drag the horse out to the hose.
