I put the bridle on over the halter, and tie the lead rope to the saddle horn (or to a D on the english saddle) so no need to pack the halter and it is instantly ready. I bring lots of water, and jerkey, and a fruit. If out for the whole day I'll pack a lunch and fruit juice. (I'm looking for lots of pottassium). The forcasts are good enough now a days that here in MN I don't have to pack rain gear if there is no rain in the forcast, but in the mountains I would always carry rain gear, you just never know when a shower will pop up. In spring and fall I dress in layers.

For the horse I pack a roll of vet wrap. We usually find water on the route.

But most important of all, I pack BUG SPRAY! both for the horse and for me.

Janet
