Gregory,
You might want to move your question over to the Flac-dev mailing list.
A FLAC stream allows for additional metadata, including custom data
which decoders will skip. However, metadata must come before the
audio data, and thus you cannot append it to the end. You also won't

Is there an obvious safe way to add some extra data to a flac file
that spec decoders will happily ignore?
I'd like to explore creating a tool which will add N extra redundancy
frames at the end which will allow perfect decoding with up to ~N
frames lost in the files. This would allow users to sa
Those are Replay Gain elements. Please check on Wikipedia or
Hydrogenaudio for more information on RG. In short, they are values
to normalize in a lossless way the audio volume.

Hi,
I'm a FLAC beginner and I had a question about the meaning of track and
album gain. I think it's a stupid question, but hey, I must learn it
somewhere ;)
So I wanted to know what track and album gain means. I use winamp for
playing my encoded FLAC files and when I look at the properties of a

Hi Harry,
The command-line flac utility writes status lines to the terminal,
typically overwriting the previous status. However, when unexpected
error messages appear, the usual output can be formatted
incorrectly. The expectation is that the final "Verify OK" line was

Harry: check out Ableton Live. It supports FLAC and pitch control.
It can also change time and pitch independently.

Hi Harry,
First of all, if you keep a copy of flac 1.1.4 then you will always
be able to decode the files. Why not make a backup of flac 1.1.4?
Second of all, flac is open-source, so somebody will always be able
to compile flac 1.1.4 for any new platform.
There are never any guarantees a

Hi,
I was wondering if somebody knows DJ-software (mainly for mixing tracks, by
using pitch control) that is able to play FLAC files and apply pitch control
on the files. It doesn't matter if the software is free or commercial.
I hope somebody knows this.
thanks in advance

Hi,
I'm a FLAC beginner and I had a question. Suppose I encode my whole CD
collection now in the FLAC format, using the FLAC encoder version 1.1.4 (the
most recent one at this time).
Will I still be able to decode all FLAC files to WAV files in the future
using the latest FLAC decoder, when for e

users on-the-go access to music and entertainment.

Hi there,
5 is the optimum compression level in terms of encoding speed and
the compression ratio. From my experience, -8 results in flac files
that are <1% smaller than -5, so I usually use -5, it's way faster.
However the recent update has greatly increased the speed of -8.
Cheers,
Murat

Hi,
I tried to encode a WAV file to FLAC. But then I get a strange message: 99%

Hi,
Why is -5 the recommended compression for the FLAC encoder? So my question
is: why is a lower compression recommended over a higher compression (-8)?
What factors make -5 the "recommended" one, even if the compression is lower
then the -8 option?
I hope somebody can explain this

Hi,
Is there anybody who knows where +I can find a picture on the Internet about
the FLAC t-shirt?
I wanted to make one myself just for personal use and I would like to see
how the original looked.
thanks in advance!
