It's better to give the player a time to render the Stage first, or you may
get wrong values.

I know that on some older versions of flash, that when testing in the
IDE it would give you different stage sizes than the size of the stage
as set in the properties panel.

i've run into a simlar issue before:

you might need to wait a few frames before getting the correct width and
height properties.
