I ran into the same issue while writing a Record by microphone application.
The security popup to allow access to the user's microphone conforms to the
same width height requirements. It would not show up unless the swf was
large enough to display it. Since we controlled the containing HTML page

problem is, if the "Adobe Flash Player Update" popup doesn't fit in the
client area, it isn't drawn at all. You just get a blank area. I've
