you may also need datatipField or dataTipFunction. I think there was a bug with dataTipField in 2.x that is fixed in 3.0

I'm surprised that Flex doesn't have this built-in, or at least I can't figure it out. If I mouse over a cell with data that extends beyond the allocated space for that cell, how can I have a tooltip popup with the full string of data? I have tried using showDataTips but it just displays the entire row object (as XML) instead of just the data pertinent to that cell.
